Acapulco (September 2004)
Wednesday, October 06, 2004 In August I was presented with one of those impossible-to-refuse offers. A Texas tycoon had a fiftieth birthday blowout in Acapulco. As a present, I was flown out to the party to play some poker with him and his family, giving a few pointers along the way. My girlfriend Ivy got to come, and they put us up in the picturesque Las Brisas hotel. Not surprisingly, I didn't win either of the two tournaments I ran for the nine interested family members. This wasn't all bad though, as two different people got to go home with stories about how they busted Matt Matros the pro. The second bustout was my favorite. Earlier I had explained that a pair vs. two overcards was basically even money before the flop. I then got my chips in with two nines against two fours. The fours flopped a set and took me out. As my opponent raked in the pot she explained, "Well Matt said it was pretty much even money." Enjoy the pictures, and if anybody reading this wants to fly me anywhere else, I might very well be game!
